Introduction
This article under the title “Salutations To Sri Sriram” was written by two eminent professors of English Prof. Ramesh Dutta and Prof Padma Dutta who were incidentally wife and husband though they have served at two different universities. This article was published in the December, 1998 edition of Mihira Magazine, a popular magazine published those days.
During a personal conversation, a few weeks ago, Sriram Sir referred to this article and upon my request had shared it with me. Am stunned with the content in the article so decided to share it with you all so presenting it now, as written by the Professors, without adding or deleting a single word.

A Guru’s grace is a boon granted, not the result of accumulated merit. Months and years roll by till one’s destiny clicks with the Cosmic design and the miracle of meeting face to face an evolved soul like Sriram occurs. At first sight one is impressed by Sri Sriram’s simplicity, unassuming ways and the unmistakable ambience of love.
After hearing about Sri Sriram from Prof. M. Sivarama Krishna – more than an academician, a spiritual brother – and after reading Sriram’s letters ‘Viveka Sravanthi’ and His biography, ‘In Search Of Mother’, the desire to meet Him grew into an obsession.
As though by serendipity, chance encounters in social gatherings, railway stations and libraries led to hints about the experience of Sriram’s grace. Details have to be ferreted out as disciples were hesitant knowing Sriram’s reluctance to be in the limelight.
He Himself states that He is for a few, a ‘circle of friends’ as He calls them. But even as the Koel cannot refrain from Singing on a Spring morning, the buoyant Spirit of a disciple who has received Divine flavor cannot resist Self expression.
The Son of devout worshipers of Rama, Sri Channabasappa and Smt. Chennamma, Sriram was born as G. Sreeramulu on 11th May, 1957 at Maldakal, also known as Adisilapuam, in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.
After His M.A. M.Phil and Ph.D in English from the Osmania University, He took the civil services examination but opted to be a Teacher. The devoted husband of Smt. Yashoda and the doting father of Uday and Sowmya, Sriram demonstrate that Spirituality and Ashrama of a householder are not interconnected but mutually supportive.
A journalist friend recalls how Sriram materialized Sugar Candy by simply waving His hand. He was unwilling to eat it because he wished to share the Prasadam with his family. Noticing his hesitation, Sriram rook the candy into His hand and the Candy doubled itself. The second piece, a replica of the first, was identical right down to the uneven edges and broken corners.
Our friend then ate the first piece, wrapped the second in a piece of paper but still would not put it in his pocket. He was thinking of his newly married daughter who now bears a new Surname. Immediately Sriram touched the Candy wrapped in the paper and the doubling process repeated it self
Yet another miracle
Reported by another friend is truly astounding. Sriram gave this disciple a sealed envelope to be opened a month later. To his amazement, when he opened it as instructed, he noticed these items
1. The title of The Hindu editorial on that day.
2. The runs the Indian Cricket Team scored.
3. The name of the best friend mentioned that morning by the devotee’s grand daughter.
4. The gist of the speech the devotee delivered accepting a last minute invitation for a function.
5. A photograph of the meeting with details like the banner of the association, the devotee along with the president and other speakers, the table cloth, the position of the Mike and the half full tumbler of water.
“People have problems”,
Sriram Says, just as they have dreams. If there are, say, seven people with seven problems, they are like seven sleepers each with his own frightening dream. There is no need to prescribe seven remedies. A single act, rousing them, is the Cure-all. When order is conspicuously present in the universe, whether the scale be that of the solar systems or subatomic particles, how is it that there is disorder only in human life..??
Look at a child, it has no problem. The source of a child’s happiness is it’s love for Mother and it’s implicit and absolute faith in Mother’s love. So let the child be your guru. The total dependence of the child on Mother is termed philosophically as “unconditional surrender”.
“Maya” says Sriram “envelopes our being and distorts our view of the world. There is Maya at the mental level and it’s grip can be broken only by the exercise of Viveka or discrimination. There’s Maya at the level of instinct too, which can be overcome by constant abhyasa or practice. But there’s another way of solving problems.
They too can be from none else than God, our Mother. Therefore, they ought to be in the first stage, welcomed. Then, we have to entertain them as we entertain friends and acquaintances of our parents. Finally, we must thank them for putting us in mind once again of our living Mother”.
Sorrows and tears have a special place, according to Sriram, for they hold forth premises of joys and smiles. All is predetermined and well determined because God is the greatest of Mothers. Sriram’s miraculous cure of tuberculosis and cancer, restoration of sight and such others are reported from many quarters including the royal household of Bobbili.
Sriram comments that all He has is love which, as a catalytic agent, triggers positive prarabdha and brings about healing. Love, the sovereign remedy, is also the Supreme Energy, greater than any of its physical manifestations. Love is also the truth, the soul of all religions.

That was the article written by the two eminent Professors and that is also the devotion they hold for Sir which they reverently expressed through the article. While Prof Ramesh Dutta is not among us today, Prof Padma Dutta is currently living along with her daughter in the United States.
